awesome news. i just added the sadies to my management roster. yay! i love them, and i think it'll be a great challenge. they're so good, i like them as people, it's good all around.

dani's birthday!

it was my friend danielle's birthday last night. we went to a yummy restaurant in kensington market, and then to sam roberts. wendy was there, but missed the pic.

taxes

gotta love being self-employed. for a week i have been sorting out every receipt i've spent in the last year into categories and little envelopes. i sent them to my accountant yesterday, and this morning i received it all summarized into 10 little pages for the government with a lovely bill. i wish i'd saved money all year like a responsible human. ah well. i've been doing this for 6 years, you'd think i'd know better by now. 2006 is my year.

teaching and eagles

i was in Sudbury, Ontario over the weekend to lead a management workshop. i knew this was something that i wouldn't enjoy, as speaking in front of groups of people is not anything i've ever found enjoyable, however, i'm trying to follow my dad's advice of stretching oneself in the spring.

the people were great, said they had a good time, but i was totally stressed out! i do however, think their initiative of bringing folks in the arts up to northern towns a great idea. people shouldn't always have to come to toronto. with the internet and the telephone you should be able to work looking at one of those beautiful lakes.

winding down

february is almost done. i'm one of those people who actually likes february. i assume this is because it's my birthday. i like winter.

tonight wendy and i are going to the spa to soak in some waters. can't wait. wish it were already 6:00. just making myself a little pasta for lunch and then i'm attacking filing and flights this afternoon.

sxsw is in two weeks, so i have to seriously make my list of bands that i'm anxious to check out. i want to be fully prepared with sensible footwear to see some rock and roll that will hopefully blow me away.

listening to judy collins. the sun is shining. it's only -10, which frankly feels like the bahamas after saturday and sunday. have a cup of decaf here in my hot little hands. not much room for improvement.

i had a fantastic birthday party on friday night. tons of folks i love, all in our house. felt like it was a housewarming too. lots of great energy.

wendy and i both took the day off, had a nice brunch together at bonjour brioche, and then did all of errands and got ready for our guests. we've decided that from now on we're going to do that every year. it was amazing to be able to relax, and i certainly didn't miss too much. with cell phones and email at home, you have the ability to check in, and what you realize is that life moves along perfectly fine without you.

we smudged during the party as well, which was awesome. wendy has felt and seen someone/thing in her room on her numerous occasions, so to be able to have a house full of people blessing our space and filling it with good energy was nice. i have noticed that the energy felt better. as i type this i can hear my friend jeff laughing all the way up at y & eg.

candis, i do agree with you and your mom. i think that this is the time of my life. it's exciting to imagine what life has in store.

aaaaah

time to exhale. it will be my birthday on friday. 32. i am excited by this age for some reason. it seems old enough to be taken seriously, but young enough to still have a fresh look at things. actually, that's something that i hope i have forever.

great news from my friend candis that she is having a bambino in july!

today we're going to the spa. the rodeo gave us all a day. i am so excited.

friday was Wendy's birthday. she's 29. i can hardly believe it.

we went to medieval times. it was a total blast, as you can see from the photo. it made me realize how lucky we are to have such great friends.

sunday was lisa's birthday and we went over for her annual lobster feast.

we really are blessed to have such amazing friends in our lives.

kitty love

i am so in love with our kittens i can hardly stand it. these girls have only been in our lives for 9 days, and i can't imagine them not here. this morning i woke up with both of them lying on me. i really didn't want to come into work - i would have loved to have just spent the day with them!

resolution time

generally i am not the sort to make resolutions, but this year there are a few things that i'm planning on targeting in the self-improvement arena.

budgeting. i'd like to make one, and then i'd like to try to stick to it, so that i don't get late notices from bill companies, and so i can buy a new pair of shoes every now and then. mama likes her new shoes.

walking. i want to walk to work. it means i have to get my ass out of bed early, and get moving. not easy to do. especially when i want to stay home and watch the kittens til the last possible second.

the bible. yup. i want to read the whole thing this year. i have never done it, and i think this is the year. i'd like to explore my spirituality a bit more. if i get the bible done, i'd also like to read the qur'an. that might have to move to 2007.

cooking. i want to become a master chef. or at least a great cook. i'm a fine cook now, but i'd like to be great.

hmmmmm... that was done without too much thought. i guess there's a lot i can be working on!

wow! it's been a long time. i can't believe it.

we had a great holiday at home in simcoe with our folks. we had a quiet new year's. now i'm back at work and wishing the holidays were a little bit longer!

some highlights:

our cousin alison renewed her vows, with my dad as minister, which was beautiful. they were married on december 13th in the dominican, and not many of us could be there, so it was great to be able to see that.

we went away for a few days with our folks to frankenmuth, michigan, which is a bavarian town close to a big outlet mall, so we had some after-Christmas shopping!

we got some babies on new year's eve. we've named them beatrice & lilibet (short for Lady Elizabeth) and we love them.
